ZANZIBAR: THE Deputy Director of Criminal Investigations in Zanzibar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zuberi Chembera, has urged police officers to strictly enforce road safety rules to reduce accidents that cause fatalities, injuries, and infrastructure damage.

DCP Chembera issued this directive on March 24, 2025, at Police Headquarters during a meeting with District Police Officers and Regional Road Safety Chiefs from Unguja. During the session, he revealed that the number of accidents resulting in deaths and injuries had increased by 28 per cent in 2024 compared to 2023.

He stated that most accidents are caused by reckless drivers who fail to comply with traffic laws. As a result, he instructed the officials to take firm action without favoritism against anyone violating the law.
