SINGIDA: THE Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) in Singida Region has successfully saved 31m/- through its monitoring of various development projects implemented in the area between July and September this year.
According to Singida Regional PCCB Head, Ms Sipha Mwanjala, the saving of 31m/- resulted from monitoring 18 projects in education, health, water and road sectors, with a combined value of over 8.2bn/-.
She said that the projects included the construction of primary schools, secondary schools, colleges, clinics, health centres, district hospitals and roads in which some of the projects were found to contain various discrepancies.

“However, some of the projects were revised and others are still under investigation” explained Mwanjala, pointing out that during the monitoring, 20.32m/- was saved in Singida Municipality, 9.96m/- in Mkalama District Council, 2.9m/- in Iramba and a mere 154,200/- was rescued in Ikungi District Council.
She said that during the period under review, the Bureau conducted two analysis systems in order to determine corruption loopholes that exist in various areas; including charges arising from forest products, health services, education and in implementing projects that use local resources and experts, popularly known as “force accounts”.
The PCCB regional chief further urged all citizens in the region to refrain from acts of corruption and participate fully in preventing such acts ahead of the Local Government Elections expected to be held on November 27 this year.
