JEDCO, others sealed by BIRS, BSMITI over registration renewal

A joint taskforce of the Benue State Internal Revenue Service, BIRS, and the Benue State Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment have sealed the Administrative Headquarters and Makurdi Zonal office of Jos Electricity Distribution Company, JEDCO, over alleged non compliance to business premises registration and renewal.

Also sealed during the operation were Eyah Hotel, Star Shawarma, Blue Cross Specialist Hospital, Hotel Bastij, Faiwin Petroleum, Oladam Bar and Chicken Republic.

The Head, Corporate Communications of BIRS, Jacob Suswam in a statement weekend explained the action was in continuation of the enforcement exercise for Business Premises Registration and Renewal.

He said the decision to seal the affected organisations was a function of their failure to comply with the demand notices sent to them to update their payments.

He said following the action which would be continous the affected organisations would remain sealed until they comply with the demand notices.

Part of the statement read “In continuation of the enforcement exercise for Business Premises Registration and Renewal by the Benue State Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment in collaboration with the Benue State Internal Revenue Service, BIRS, some business organizations operating in the state were in the early hours of today (Friday) sealed for default in payment at the effluxion of time contained in the demand notices that were issued early this year.

“Some of the places sealed in this regard includes; the administrative headquarters of the Makurdi Zonal office of Jos Electricity Distribution Company, JEDCO, Eyah Hotel, Star Shawarma, Blue cross Specialist Hospital, Hotel Bastij, Faiwin Petroleum, Oladam Bar and Chicken Republic.

“The enforcement team which comprises security agents shall proceed to other parts of the state for similar purpose.”
