DAR ES SALAAM: MORE than 25 African nations will participate in the 3rd G25 African Coffee Summit in Dar es Salaam which will involve coffee-producing countries.
The-day summit which begins tomorrow and concludes on Saturday, will serve as a critical platform for discussions on the growth and economic impact of Africa’s coffee industry.
The Summit will be held under the theme: “Unlocking Employment Opportunities for Youth through Regeneration of the African Coffee Industry.”
According to the G25 Coffee Summit portal, the event will bring together Heads of State, Ministers, coffee authorities and Institutions, and private sector stakeholders from G25 African coffee-producing countries to discuss and implement strategies for transforming the coffee sector.
Furthermore, the available information said the summit will focus on transforming the coffee sector, strengthening policies, and fostering collaboration to enhance production and trade.
“The summit objectives include unlocking employment opportunities for youth and women, promoting public-private funding, providing financial support to farmers, establishing regional Centres of Excellence, and harmonizing African coffee standards to boost intra-Africa coffee trade”, it states.
Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Albert Chalamila confirmed that agriculture ministers from participating countries will attend the opening sessions, while heads of state are expected to join discussions on the final day.
He also added that more than 1,000 delegates from across Africa and beyond are expected to attend, offering a major economic boost to Dar es Salaam’s hospitality and service sectors.
“This summit is not only crucial for the coffee industry but also for our city’s economy,” Chalamila said.
“With over 1,000 attendees, businesses, especially in hospitality, transport, and food services, will greatly benefit. This is an opportunity for local traders to showcase Tanzania’s coffee to the global market.”
He emphasized the significance of hosting the event, noting that while this is Tanzania’s third time hosting, this edition is expected to be the largest and most prestigious.
Regarding logistical arrangements, Chalamila reassured residents that no major roads will be closed.
However, a dedicated route from Julius Nyerere International Airport to the city center will be reserved for visiting dignitaries, with restrictions on regular vehicles, motorcycles, and auto-rickshaws.
